Archiving and Preservation

JIFSAM aims to keep every article it publishes available permanently, whatever happens to the journal, the publisher or the hosting platform. This page says what is in place now and what will follow once the ISSN is assigned.

1. Now: publisher backups

World Research Union keeps regular backups of all journal content, files and metadata as part of routine hosting.

2. After the ISSN is assigned: PKP Preservation Network

Once the ISSN is assigned, the journal will deposit its content with the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), a free distributed archive run by the Public Knowledge Project for journals on Open Journal Systems. PKP PN keeps copies at partner institutions in several countries, so articles stay available if the journal's own site does not. WRU will also consider joining CLOCKSS or Portico as the journal grows.

3. Identifiers

The journal will register DOIs through Crossref. A DOI gives each article a permanent link that keeps working if the website address changes. Until DOIs are registered, articles are cited by their permanent URL on this site. Current status is on the Indexing and Abstracting page.

4. Metadata harvesting

Article metadata is available through the OAI-PMH endpoint at https://landing.wrunion.org/ojs/index.php/jifsam/oai, so that repositories, aggregators and preservation services can harvest it.

5. File formats

Articles are published as text-based PDFs, not scans. The text stays searchable, readable by assistive technology and convertible to future formats. Metadata is stored in standard structured formats (Dublin Core for OAI-PMH).

6. If the journal closes

If JIFSAM stops publishing, WRU will:

  • keep the website and its archive online for at least five years;
  • keep articles available through PKP PN and any other preservation service then in use;
  • tell registries, indexing services, authors and reviewers in good time;
  • where suitable, pass the archive to a partner institution that can maintain access.
