Plagiarism Policy

Every manuscript submitted to JASAT is screened with iThenticate before it is sent to reviewers. Revised manuscripts may be screened again before acceptance.

How the report is read

The editor reads the similarity report itself rather than relying on the overall percentage. Matches to references, standard method descriptions and the authors' own preprint are expected. What matters is copied text, figures or data without attribution, and large passages reused from the authors' earlier publications.

What happens next

  • Minor, unintentional overlap (for example a few sentences not properly quoted). The authors are asked to rewrite or cite before review continues.
  • Substantial overlap or text recycling. The manuscript is returned or rejected.
  • Deliberate plagiarism, including self-plagiarism. The manuscript is rejected and the case is handled as misconduct under the COPE flowcharts. The authors' institution may be informed.

If plagiarism is found after publication, the article is corrected or retracted as described on the Publication Ethics page.

Reusing your own work

Earlier work by the same authors must be cited, and any reused text must be disclosed at submission. A journal version of a conference paper needs substantial new content and must cite the conference paper.
