Author Guidelines

JBSMR publishes original research, systematic reviews and short communications in business strategy and management. Please read these guidelines and the Submission Checklist below before you submit.

1. Before you submit

2. Article types and length

TypeLengthFigures and tablesAbstract

Systematic or Methodological Review6,000 to 12,000 wordsAs neededUp to 300 words
Short CommunicationUp to 4,000 wordsUp to 4Up to 200 words
EditorialBy invitation only

3. Structure

Research articles and short communications should use: Title; Abstract; Keywords; Introduction; Methods (or the equivalent for theoretical work); Results; Discussion; Conclusions; CRediT Author Contribution Statement; Conflicts of Interest; Data Availability; Use of AI Tools (if applicable); Acknowledgements; Funding; References. Reviews follow the PRISMA structure or a comparable one.

4. Title, abstract and keywords

  • Keep the title specific and informative, normally no more than 20 words.
  • Write the abstract as a single unstructured paragraph covering motivation, method, main results and conclusions, without references or undefined abbreviations.
  • Give 4 to 6 keywords.

5. Language

Write in clear English, British or American, used consistently. Authors who are not confident in English may use a language-editing service before submitting. The journal does not edit language during review.

6. Figures and tables

  • Use vector graphics for line art and at least 300 dpi for images.
  • Supply tables as editable text, not images.
  • Every caption should make sense without the main text.
  • Obtain permission for any third-party material.

7. References

JBSMR uses IEEE style: numbered citations in square brackets, e.g. [1], listed in order of first citation. Give full details for each reference, with the DOI where one exists. Authors must check that every cited work exists and says what they claim, particularly if AI tools helped with the literature search.

8. Equations

Use consistent notation. Number equations that are referred to in the text.

9. Required declarations

  • CRediT Author Contribution Statement
  • Conflicts of Interest
  • Data Availability Statement
  • Use of AI Tools, where AI was used beyond basic language editing
  • Ethics approval, where the work involves human participants, animals or sensitive personal data
  • Funding

10. Files to submit

For review, submit:

  • the manuscript as a PDF, anonymised for double-blind review (no author names, affiliations, acknowledgements or self-identifying references);
  • a separate title page with all author names, affiliations, ORCID iDs and the corresponding author's email;
  • a cover letter;
  • any supplementary files, data or code.

The editable source (Word .docx, or LaTeX with all figure and bibliography files) is requested only after acceptance.

11. How to submit

  1. Register or log in.
  2. Click Make a Submission and follow the steps.
  3. Upload the anonymised PDF, the title page, the cover letter and any supplementary files.
  4. Enter the title, abstract, keywords and every author's details, including ORCID iDs.
  5. Confirm the Submission Checklist and submit.

12. After submission

You will receive an automatic acknowledgement. The editorial office aims to make a desk decision within two weeks and a first decision after review within six to eight weeks. The full process is on the Peer Review Process page.

13. After acceptance

  1. Source files. Upload the final Word or LaTeX source, the de-anonymised version with all author details, and high-resolution figures.
  2. APC. The article processing charge is invoiced by WRU London Ltd.
  3. Copyediting and typesetting. The production team edits the text to house style and typesets it in the journal template. Queries are sent to the corresponding author.
  4. Proofs. The corresponding author receives a PDF proof and should return corrections within 48 hours. Only errors may be corrected at this stage, not new content.
  5. Publication. The article appears in the next available issue, open access under CC BY-NC 4.0.

Submission Preparation Checklist

  • The manuscript is original, has not been published before, is not under review elsewhere, and fits the Aims and Scope of JBSMR.

  • The manuscript is submitted as an anonymised PDF, written in clear English, with references in IEEE style. A separate title page with all author details is uploaded.
  • The abstract is a single unstructured paragraph within the word limit for the article type, followed by 4 to 6 keywords.

  • The manuscript includes statements on conflicts of interest, funding, data availability and, where applicable, ethics approval, consent and use of AI tools.
  • If any author is a JBSMR editor or active reviewer, this is declared in the cover letter.
  • The authors accept the Copyright and Licensing terms (CC BY-NC 4.0, authors keep copyright) and the article processing charge of USD 1,000 on acceptance, and any request for a reduction is made with this submission.

Privacy Statement

This statement explains how the Journal of Business Strategy and Management Review (JBSMR) collects, uses, keeps and shares the personal data of authors, reviewers, editors and registered readers.

1. Who is responsible

The data controller is WRU London Ltd (company no. 17313326), which publishes the journal for World Research Union. Its registered office is at Dept 6696, 196 High Road, Wood Green, London N22 8HH, United Kingdom, and its business address is C17 Kestrel Business Centre, Private Road 2, Colwick Industrial Estate, Nottingham NG4 2JR, United Kingdom. 2. What we collect

  • Profile data: reviewing interests, biography and any other fields you choose to fill in.
  • Submission data: manuscripts, cover letters, declarations and related correspondence.
  • Review data: review reports and review history.
  • Editorial data: decision letters, correspondence and workflow records.
  • Technical data: IP addresses, browser details and access times recorded by the web server.

We do not ask for special-category data such as health, ethnicity, political opinions or religion. If such data appears in a manuscript, it is treated as confidential research material.

3. Why we use it, and on what basis

  • Running peer review and publishing articles (performance of the service you asked for).
  • Writing to you about your submissions, reviews and account (performance of the service).
  • Sending notices of new issues and announcements, if you opt in (consent).
  • Keeping an accurate scholarly record, including corrections and retractions (legitimate interests).
  • Meeting legal obligations.

We do not use personal data for marketing or profiling, and we never sell it.

4. Who we share it with

  • Editors handling a manuscript see the data they need for it. Under double-blind review, authors and reviewers do not see each other's identity.
  • Reviewers receive anonymised manuscripts and must keep them confidential.
  • ORCID, if you connect your ORCID iD.
  • Preservation and indexing services receive published article metadata (author names and affiliations) through the journal's OAI-PMH endpoint.

No other party receives personal data unless the law requires it.

5. Cookies

The site uses session cookies to keep you logged in. It does not use advertising or tracking cookies.

6. How long we keep it

  • Account data: while the account exists, plus a reasonable period after closure for audit.
  • Submission and review records: for the life of the journal, as part of the editorial record.
  • Published author names and affiliations: permanently, as part of the scholarly record.
  • Server logs: up to 12 months.

7. Your rights

You may ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, object to its use, or withdraw consent to notifications at any time in your profile. Deleting an account does not remove published articles or the record of past submissions. Write to info@wrunion.org; we aim to reply within 30 days. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

8. Security

The site runs over HTTPS, passwords are hashed, and editorial access is limited to people handling a given manuscript. No online service can be completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect data in transit and at rest.

9. International transfers

Editors and reviewers work in many countries, so data needed for review may be seen outside the United Kingdom. It is shared only for the purposes above and under the journal's confidentiality rules.

10. Children

The service is for researchers and students. We do not knowingly collect data from children and will delete any we find.

11. Changes

Effective from 27 June 2026. Last revised 26 September 2026. Registered users are told of any change that affects their rights.
